The South Downtown Plan

Since the spring of 2008 the City has been developing a new vision for its South Downtown - the area that will host Milwaukie's future Light Rail station and lies between 99E and 21st Ave. from west to east, and Washington Street to Lake Road from north to south.

The Center for Environmental Structure (CES) began this work and helped the City rethink what new development can look and how it can feel. That work will be carried forward and refined by Walker Macy/LMN Architects in what is considered Phase IV of this process. Phase IV will result in a single concept that adds much more detail in describing a design for a plaza, land parcelization, circulation strategies, park connectivity and integrating light rail and associated development.

Walker Macy/LMN has assembled a citizen-based Steering Committee that will help the design team develop a set of maps and diagrams that explain a vision for the site. An Open House will be held late in the summer to give citizens a chance to review the work and to help refine the concept as it moves to completion. The design team is expected to deliver its preferred concept by October.
