City crews place barriers around white oak in Kronberg Park to protect onlookers

Fri Dec 16th, 2011

According to an arborist report recently obtained by the City as part of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail permitting process, the white oak tree in Kronberg Park is subject to decay and rot, presenting a potential hazard to pedestrians and park users in the form of falling debris.
The City’s insurance carrier has advised the City that as the property owner the City has an obligation to protect the public from hazards presented by the tree. Accordingly, the City Manager has directed Public Works to ring the tree with temporary barriers to notify citizens of the danger and to keep them from harm. City Public Works crews installed orange flexible fencing and yellow caution tape around the tree on the morning of Dec. 16, 2011.
The tree is not scheduled to be removed.
