The Special Olympics Torch Run comes to Milwaukie on July 13

Wed Jun 27th, 2012

Police Chief Bob Jordan, with the help of Island Station Neighborhood resident Cindy Miguel, have brought the Special Olympics Torch Run to Milwaukie.

The run will start at Milwaukie Riverfront Park on July 13th at 10 a.m. and all are encouraged to come out to support the athletes.
Chief Jordan has organized the route, brought in many new partnerships and has infused the event with new energy and enthusiasm. Island Station resident Cindy Miguel is helping organize sponsors for the event and also is the Track & Field coach for Clackamas County’s athletes.

Runners will start at Riverfront Park next to the Jefferson Street boat ramp and head south along 99E to Oregon City, and then head north via Highway 43 to the West Linn Police Department. The leg will conclude at the Albertson’s in Lake Oswego, where a reception will take place. Over 30 officers and Special Olympic athletes will carry the torch. Officers from Milwaukie, Gladstone, Oregon City, West Linn, Canby, Lake Oswego and Clackamas County are giving their time and dedication to raise money that will provide uniforms, equipment, transportation, lodging, facilities and, of course, competitions for the athletes.

Last year more than $630,000 was raised in Oregon. To learn more about how you can contribute, contact Cindy at cindymiguel@hotmail.com.
