Raffle aims to raise cash to send Milwaukie Police Cadets to national competition

Mon Feb 13th, 2012

Milwaukie’s Police Cadets are selling raffle tickets to raise enough money to send them to a national competition they qualified for last year when they finished third in Oregon’s Law Enforcement Competition.

Raffle prizes include a 40” Samsung HDTV, an IPad, a Traegar Grill, a Kindle Fire, and gift cards and gift baskets. Tickets are $5 each, or five tickets for $20. The drawing will be held at the Milwaukie Police Department, located at 3200 SE Harrison St., on April 4, 2012 at 6 p.m. Winners do not have to be present to claim prizes.

Tickets can be purchased Feb. 22, 2012 through April 3, 2012 at the Milwaukie Police Department. Those interested in purchasing tickets can also contact Officer Crystal Hill at hillc@ci.milwaukie.or.us, or Officer Lindsey Nold atnoldl@ci.milwaukie.or.us.

The Milwaukie Police Cadets are volunteers between the ages of 15 and 21-years-old who are required to put in at least 16 hours a month working with the Police Department at community events, helping with parades, working crowd control, assisting with youth programs, and other law enforcement activities.

The national competition is being held in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 16, 2012. Eight senior cadets and the three cadet advisors are hoping to attend the event. Money raised will help pay for airfares, food and lodging. The plan is to fly to Las Vegas on June 15, 2012 and return June 17, 2012.

Donations can also be made to The Milwaukie Police Cadets. The Cadets’ tax ID number is 93-6002212. Donations can be sent to the Milwaukie Police Department, Attn: Cadet Advisors, 3200 SE Harrison St, Milwaukie, OR 97222.

Those with further questions about the effort, or those interested in becoming a cadet, can check out the Milwaukie Cadets’ web site at www.ci.milwaukie.or.us/police/police-cadet.
