The Milwaukie Police Department Motorcycle Unit in partnership with Cycle Oregon will be providing escort and safety patrol for roughly 2000 bicycle riders participating in the 2012 Cycle Oregon weekend event July 13 through 15, and the full week ride September 8 through the 15.
The officers’ duties will include ensuring the safety of both passing motorists and participating cyclists. They will provide a police presence during the event. If needed, police will issue citations to motorists or bicyclists that behave in such as manner as to threaten the safety of anyone using the roadway. Cycle Oregon is covering all the costs associated with the officers’ participation.
Dubbed The Best Bike Ride in America, Cycle Oregon 2012 offers nearly 2,000 bicycle riders the special opportunity to admire the available beauty along Oregon scenic byways and highways. The July 13 through 15 weekend event will begin at Oregon State University in Corvallis. The weekend ride travels 68 miles of countryside as it moves from town to town. Riders can choose from six different routes ranging from 11 to 68 miles over a two-day period.
September’s week long Cycle Oregon event will offer up to 490 miles of scenic views. The route will include a ride around Crater Lake, Oregon.
