Final Residential Design Standards Open House set for Oct. 20, 2011

Thu Oct 6th, 2011

Based on input from many Milwaukie residents, developers, and property owners, the City’s Planning staff is proposing policy changes that guide development on residential lots. The main goal of the proposal is to apply reasonable regulations to help ensure new infill development contributes to the community as a “good neighbor.”

These regulations will affect every residential property in Milwaukie—both single family and multi-family housing, so your input is important. Share your input on these proposed changes at the last public open house on:

Thursday, October 20th
6 to 8 p.m.
Milwaukie Christian Church, 5197 SE King Rd.

The next day, the proposal will also be available on the project website as a “virtual open house”.
Some key proposed changes include:

• Requiring facade articulation on new single family homes.
• Applying limited design standards to significant home expansions or garage conversions
• Making it easier to add accessory dwelling units, e.g. mother-in-law units or granny flats.
• Adding new design standards and review processes for new multifamily development.
• Allowing rowhouses and cottage clusters in zones that allow multifamily development.
• Allowing larger accessory structures, but prohibiting tarps as a roofing material.
