Council to Consider Utility Bill Surcharge at
Tonight's Council Meeting
After meeting with a pair of citizen groups City Council is expected to decide
at its Feb. 2nd Council meeting whether or not to add a surcharge to residents’
utility bill to raise money to cover costs associated with Clackamas County’s
termination of its wastewater services contract with the City.
City Council met with the Budget Committee and the Citizens Utility Advisory
Board on Jan. 26th to discuss the surcharge, which would increase a typical bill
by about $28.
Back in August the County terminated its contract with the City and imposed a
rate for treatment more than double the previous rate. Council has refused the
rate, has not passed it on to ratepayers, and will continue negotiating for an
equitable rate.
