Dozens of people have contributed ideas about the future of south downtown
Milwaukie, and those ideas will soon be under discussion again when the Center
for Environment Structure returns to town.
CES, the City's consultant, has been hard at work since meeting with 35
Milwaukie residents in May, translating its experience of Milwaukie and peoples'
dreams for the future of the area into a rich set of ideas about what the South
Downtown can be. The South Downtown area, south of Washington Street between
McLoughlin and SE 21st, will tie together parks, the future Kellogg Creek, the
future light rail station, and the existing Main Street environment.
Since last summer, CES has been testing concepts for the south downtown area.
Now, the consultants are preparing to work with a small group of Milwaukie
residents to further test and refine ideas for the south downtown area.
Beginning in April, those ideas will be presented to Milwaukie neighborhoods and
other interested stakeholders for review, comment and feedback. If consensus
emerges around a new vision for the south downtown, City staff and CES will
begin planning for continued collaboration on additional design and
implementation measures.
