Since the spring of 2008 the City of Milwaukie has been working closely with the Center for Environmental Structure (CES) and a handful of citizens in developing a new vision for Milwaukie’s South Downtown area.

Most everything about the CES approach is entirely unique - from the way the intial ideas were gathered, the way the plan has been put into words through the use of a “Pattern Language”, the way the plan is put to the test through the use of basic modeling, and through the way CES envisions its implementation by a collection of individual owners rather than a single developer.

To really understand the aims of this approach requires some time and thought. The City hopes the resources here help those interested in learning more about the effort.
