The Island Station Neighborhood District Association (NDA) is an officially recognized NDA in the City of Milwaukie.
A few of the most recent programs and events in the Island Station Neighborhood primarily funded by Milwaukie's Neighborhood Grant Program include:
-
Spring Park: Neighbors worked with City staff to complete phase I of Spring Park in 2009. Located at 19th and Sparrow, the first phase of this project created a pocket park with native-compatible landscaping, play equipment, and picnic tables. Phase II will enhance the wetlands located below the formal area of the park. The neighborhood also sponsors ongoing work parties in the park, in partnership with North Clackamas Parks and Recreation, to remove invasive species and enhance the wetlands.
-
Annual Neighborhood Picnic: Island Station sponsors an annual Neighborhood Picnic in Spring Park to unify the neighborhood residents and improve crime prevention. (Elk Rock Island is managed by a joint agreement between The City of Portland and Clackamas County.)
-
Protection and enhancement of Elk Rock Island: Neighborhood residents been been working on habitat restoration on Elk Rock Island in conjunction with Portland Parks and Recreation.
-
Traffic Calming: The neighborhood has been working with City staff and ODOT on several traffic calming projects along McLoughlin near River Road and 22nd Ave. The neighborhood continues to advocate for improved pedestrian facilities and traffic calming throughout the neighborhood.
-
Maintaining common areas and helping needy folks with lawn maintenance - The neighborhood purchased a riding lawnmower with city grant funding several years ago and continues to utilize the mower to maintain common areas and help needy residents maintain their yards.
