We are excited to announce our new Code Compliance Certification Program. The "I Live By The Code" program is designed to acknowledge and reward properties in the City that are compliant with the city's codes. Be the first on your block to be certified and win bragging rights over your neighbors and maybe even a prize.
Certification Rewards
If the property is found to meet all criteria then the property is awarded:
-
A Certificate of Compliance- Certificate is presented to property representative and is good for the day that the property was inspected.
-
Sign Displayed in Yard- The sign is installed on your property for a maximum of 30 days. The sign is designed to promote the program and also show your property off as code compliant. This sign is 24 X 18 and you are not required to have it in your yard.
-
Property Entered in Quarterly Drawing- The property is entered into a drawing which will be held the first working day in the months of January, April (1st drawing of 2012), July and October. Prizes and number of winners per quarter depend on number of entries, donations to the program and City’s budget. Prizes are indirectly related to the "I Live By the Code" program, and may include gift certificates for local hardware stores or auto repair businesses, work gloves, or yard maintenance equipment.
Certification Requirements
The property being assessed must meet the following criteria to be certified:
-
The entire property must comply with all "I Live By The Code" municipal codes. Assess your own property by clicking here.
-
Property can only be a single family residence. No vacant lots, multi-family, or commercial properties will be allowed to participate.
How do I get certified?
The process is simple. A property’s representative contacts the Code Compliance Coordinator and requests for a property assessment. The Code Compliance Coordinator assesses the property with the property representative present. If the property is in full compliance with the criteria the property becomes certified.
Rules
-
Property representative must be present during assessment.
-
Entire property must be assessed.
-
Property can only be certified once in a 3 year timeline.
-
Property not in compliance during original assessment may be reassessed to qualify for the program only once and must be reassessed within 15 calendar days from the original assessment. If property is not in compliance after the 15 calendar days the property must wait until the next quarter to reenter for certification.
-
Properties assessed are only eligible for prizes during the quarter of the year that the certification was dated.
Disclaimer
It is not the intent of the program to look for violations or to conduct code compliance cases on properties. Property certification does not hold any legal standing. Certification does not exempt the property from being found guilty of any violations whether on the “I Live By the Code” criteria or any other Milwaukie Municipal Code.
