The Milwaukie Arts Committee, known as "artMOB" gathered with a jolly crowd on October 17th for the third annual scarecrow contest. The entries ranged from the humorous to horrifying. Prizes were awarded in three categories: best contemporary, group, and character. Check out the photos here!
2012 Scarecrow Contest Winners:
Contemporary:
1st: “Grandma Linda” by Leanna Steiner—Honoring their own grandmother, this scarecrow is sweet rather than scary.
2nd: “Quack Attack” by Jonathan Weintz—a homage to the Oregon Ducks, Jonathan’s favorite sports team.
Character:
1st: Icabod’s Crane’s Nightmare by Christy Pierce—Based on the story of “The Headless Horseman” this scarecrow is the girlfriend of Icabod Crane that was attacked by the headless horseman. It is made of recycled materials such as squeegee handles, pop bottles and a dyed wedding dress.
2nd: Beetlejuice by Chelsea Bantz—modeled after the character from the movie—he glows in the dark!
3rd: “Keystone Cop” by Dennis Ward—this pint sized cop gives new significance to the boys in blue.
Group:
1st: Rose Villa’s “The Gardner” was made by the residents at the Rose Villa Health Center to celebrate the spirit and heart of their community.
2nd: Ardenwald’s “Operation Milwaukie” by Joe Campbell. Our resident Milwaukie patient has overindulged in the many exciting events and activities in Milwaukie (checked out books from the Ledding Library, eaten all the strawberries at the Farmer’s Market, etc.) Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to operate safely so that he can recover!
