Milwaukie Building Department opens E-Permitting

Tue Aug 2nd, 2011

The City of Milwaukie’s Building Department continues to be among the first departments in the state to be on the leading edge in offering on-line permits.

Back in 2005 the City was among the first six municipalities in the state of Oregon to offer simple mechanical, electric and plumbing permits to contractors on-line. Now, Milwaukie is among the first five cities in the state to offer a much broader E-Permitting suite of services.
Licensed professionals can now apply for a full menu of permits online, including: Structural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Demolition, Erosion control, Fire Systems, Right of Way and Signs.

After registering at www.BuildingPermits.Oregon.gov,contractors will be able to: apply for permits, upload plans for review, pay fees, track the status of permits, schedule inspections.

The public can and search property files for permit history going back to 2003.

“E-permitting has been a real time-saver for us,” Scott Thelin, Vice President of Mike Patterson Plumbing said. “It allows us to spend our time where it counts – providing service to our customers. We are looking forward to Milwaukie’s migration to the full-service platform.”
Later this summer Milwaukie resident do-it-your-selfers will have the same capabilities.

On-line permitting holds a number of advantages for Milwaukie’s Building Department. Now inspection results can be entered from the field enabling applicants to access real time inspection results and permit status. A rolling permit history is automatically created for every property, and the amount of paper used is greatly reduced.

“The e-permitting program is a good example of the state working cooperatively with local jurisdictions, and it provides a great service for our stakeholders,” Milwaukie Building Official Tom Larsen said. “It allows us to use our resources much more efficiently and provide a faster turnaround time on all types of permits across the board.”
