Mark Knudson, Chief Engineer with the Tualatin Valley Water District, will present The Oregon Resilience Plan for Water & Wastewater Systems. This talk will be part of the City Council study session, held at City Hall 5:30pm-6:15pm. 10722 SE Main Street, Milwaukie, OR 97222.
In 2011 the Oregon House of Representatives approved House Resolution 3, which directed the Oregon Seismic Safety Policy Advisory Council (OSSPAC) to prepare an Oregon Resilience Plan. The Plan has recently been completed and is intended to become a 50-year comprehensive plan to help communities and critical infrastructure systems to become better prepared for a magnitude 9 Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake. The Plan addressed several critical infrastructure systems, including critical & essential buildings, transportation, energy, information & communications, and water & wastewater systems.
The presentation by Mark Knudson will review the process used for developing the resilience plan for water & wastewater systems; why water & wastewater systems are especially vulnerable to damage from an earthquake; anticipated impacts of a Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake on the state’s water & wastewater utilities; and recommendations for enhancing the resilience of Oregon’s water & wastewater systems.
