
City Council unanimously passed a resolution stating its opposition to coal exportation projects at its Oct. 16, 2012 Regular Session Meeting.
The resolution outlines a series of environmental, safety and health concerns and supports Governor Kitzhaber's request for a full and comprehensive environmental impact study. Click here to view the resolution.
Staff provided information on coal exportation proposals at Council's Aug. 7th and Sept. 4th , and Oct. 2nd Work Session meetings (video can be found here) and citizens had been providing regular testimony during Council's Regular Sessions.
On Sept. 25th representatives of the Port of Coos Bay attended Council's Study Session to provide more background on Project Mainstay, the project that would bring coal through Milwuakie.
On Oct. 2nd the Milwaukie Coal Task Force provided Council a presentation outlining its concerns about Project Mainstay and using coal as an energy source.
